Garment Construction
At the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC), I expanded my design background through hands-on training in sewing, garment construction, and patternmaking. I gained experience working from patterns, cutting and preparing fabric, fitting garments on a dress form, and constructing pieces from start to finish. Through projects such as this A-line dress, I practiced techniques including French seams, darts, facings, bias binding, gathering, and closures. This experience strengthened my understanding of how a design moves from a pattern into a finished three-dimensional garment while building my precision, craftsmanship, and confidence with sewing equipment and fabrication.
The Ephemeral Sentence
The Ephemeral Sentence is a work in progress fashion collection inspired by vintage hearing aids and the history of concealing assistive devices, reimagining what was once hidden as something intentionally visible and sculptural. Motifs drawn from hearing horns, cochlear forms, cords, and early body-worn devices are abstracted into sweeping silhouettes, circular structures, layered curves, and exaggerated attachments. The collection transforms objects historically associated with concealment into expressive elements meant to be seen.
The Lid to the Inside
These fashion sketchbook pages explore organic form, texture, and unconventional silhouettes inspired by the Perichaena depressa slime mold. I was drawn to its clustered, irregular shapes and earthy golden tones, translating them into exaggerated padded forms, layered garments, exposed stitching, and sculptural details. Through mixed-media experimentation, I developed the natural shapes of the slime mold into wearable silhouettes that balance softness with structure, using the body as a surface for growth and transformation.
